This condition is more prevalent in men and tends to run in families. Chronic Pelvic Pain
For women, chronic pelvic pain can be one of the most misunderstood causes of debilitating, disruptive pain in the body. Your stories are important to women living with the same issues that have yet to find any resolve. Some of the conditions we know that cause chronic pelvic pain are endometriosis, PCOS, inflammatory disease, fibroids, interstitial cystitis, pelvic congestion syndrome, and semen allergies. Graves’ Disease
Graves’ disease is an autoimmune condition in which the thyroid gland produces excessive hormones. For the men and women affected by this disease, they experience a wide array of symptoms that include nervousness, heart palpitations, heat intolerance, and weight loss. Release TBA
Interstitial Cystitis
Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a condition that results in recurring discomfort or pain in the bladder and the surrounding pelvic region. An estimated 3.3 million women and an estimated 1.6 million men are affected by IC. Release TBA
Juvenile (Type 1) Diabetes
To quote a dear friend whose child has Type 1 diabetes, “I’m forever hopeful for medical advancement, but in awe at what [my child] overcomes each day in school, life, and sports.” These are the stories that inspire hope and teach others to live life to the fullest extent each day and are the stories we want to share. Lyme Disease
It is a multi-systemic inflammatory infection caused by the bite of an infected tick. Lyme disease can cause some a multitude of symptoms, transmit in utero, and can turn into chronic Lyme — a chronic multi-systemic autoimmune condition; thus, changing a person’s life forever. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) affects people to varying degrees. For every individual living with MS, a level of strength and determination has been found to continue living in the best possible manner, and we want to showcase these stories. Release TBA
Raynaud’s Phenomenon
Raynaud’s phenomenon causes blood flow to the skin, especially in the fingers and toes, to reduce as a result of cold or stress and is more intensified than a typical body response. In an attack, the vessels narrow faster and tighter resulting in numbness and pain once the blood flow returns to the extremities. This condition requires some to adjust how they live and work to reduce the number of attacks and the resulting pain. We want to know how you do what you do! Release TBA
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disorder that primarily affects joints. It may result in deformed and painful joints, which can lead to loss of function. Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSDS) is classified as a form of dysautonomia by some physicians. Although Our Stories of Strength is accepting submissions for an anthology that could encompass RSDS, we believe that these stories deserve a platform all of their own.
